The Challenge

Backcountry operates as an automation-forward business, with users across buying, merchandising, and operations building workflows and tools on their local machines. The bottleneck wasn't ambition — it was infrastructure. Managing individual API keys and per-user integrations across enterprise systems like NetSuite, pricing, and merchandising data isn't feasible at scale. The automations existed but had nowhere to go.

My Approach

I conceived and designed an integration layer that connects business users to core enterprise systems via OAuth 2.0 — giving Excel workflows, AI agents, and local automations a secure, scalable path to act on live business data. The architecture is tool-agnostic by design, meaning it can extend to any business-facing system without rebuilding the underlying plumbing. I partnered with engineering to take it from whiteboard to production launch, owning the product vision and technical requirements throughout.

Impact

Identified and defined a solution to a structural automation bottleneck that no off-the-shelf tool was solving
Live in production, with 55 weekly users of roughly 400 eligible, and entire departments onboarded within weeks of launch
Users and use cases expanding every week, with strong pull from teams across the business
Established the foundation for an automation-forward operating model where business users can act directly on enterprise systems without IT bottlenecks
